ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A crash on Welch Road in Apopka resulted in the deaths of three teenagers and injuries to others early Sunday.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m., the driver of a Chevrolet Silverado truck lost control, struck a tree, and overturned, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Investigators said as the vehicle was traveling east on Welch Road, nearing Wekiwa Drive.

The 17-year-old male driver lost control along a curve, causing the vehicle to leave the road, hit a tree, and overturn, troopers said.

The driver and two passengers, ages 15 and 14, were transported to area hospitals with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to investigators.

FHP said a 17-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at AdventHealth Apopka, while two other passengers, aged 17 and 13, died at the crash site.

The crash remains under investigation.
